Forgiveness Anyone???

Jesus, after teaching his disciples how to pray, concludes his thoughts with the following statement, “Yes, if you forgive others for their sins, your Father in heaven will also forgive you of your sins. But if you don’t forgive others, your Father in heaven will not forgive your sins.” (Matt 6: 14, NCV) I’m not sure if the disciples really grasped the importance of this simple concept that Jesus presented to them at that moment; I’m also not sure people really understand the gravity of that rule today, though it is still in effect. To make it even clearer, Jesus is expressing that one should not even expect forgiveness for his or her own wrong doing from God if he or she will not forgive others for their wrong doing.  Jesus explained the importance of forgiveness on several occasions, yet it doesn’t appear that forgiveness is one of the principles that is highly emphasized today. So many people struggle with forgiveness; some, to the point that they will hold grudges or hate others for a lifetime. Jesus is the epitome of forgiveness so if you’re striving to be “Christ-like” then forgiveness should be one of your finest attributes as well, right!? Reconsider what the bible has to say regarding forgiveness and how that Jesus freely gave his life for our forgiveness and reunion with God; know also that God will not forgive you if you don’t forgive others and heaven cannot be your eternal home.

Campaign for Christ Rally

We had such an awesome time together at Friday Night Lights.  Bro. Richard Blount led us in a wonderful discussion on personalities.  He helped us to identify our personalities and higlighted Biblical examples of each personality.

5/4/2011 Wednesday Night Bible Study

Topic: “Wisdom: Going Back To The Basics”

Taught By: Bro. Trevis Bonnett

How would you explain what happens during baptism spiritually to a person who was unfamiliar with all that occurs during the process?

Scriptures presented:

Rom 1:16, Rom 5:6-8, 1 John 1:7

Practical Applications:

Giovanni brought out a washing machine analogy where the person goes into the wash (water) dirty (sinful) and through the working of God (agitation of the machine) through the Holy Spirit (detergent), one is made totally clean!

Trevis brought out the idea that what happens in baptism is like someone waking up to see that all of their debts have been Paid and free gift of $500,000 has be deposited into you; Mike Dangerfield added that it is not a “one time” deposit because we have continuous access to that forgiveness (deposit) if we live faithfully and walk in the way that God has directed us.

1 John 1:7- Wesley Simmons presented that the simplest way he could explain this passage to others is to “Do the right thing!” Tamara Dangerfield added that we as Christians should always walk with our heads up knowing that regardless of what happens around us, we have God on our sides (paraphrased).

Tonight is the night!  Friday Night Lights will be held at 7:30 pm at the home of Brother & Sister Roy Johnson.  Please come with your Bible, an open mind, and an empty stomach!  Be ready for an evening of Christian fellowship and enlightenment as we discuss “Fellowship: Characteristics of a True CHRISTian”.

Hope to see you there!
