Remember who you are:
Be holy 1 Pet 1:13-16
Be careful with what we engage in and who we engage in conversation with.
You are the children of light (v.8)
We shouldn’t give time/energy to ungodly, negative drama-filled situations (i.e. television)

Remember where you belong (v.5)
We belong in the kingdom. We are here in the world, surrounded by these things, we must live like an example. Phil 3:17-20
Be careful what we feed our minds. We have to try to maintain our place in Heaven.
Let’s not lose our place in Heaven over worldly lusts. Utilize the tools that we have and our spiritual family to help minimize distractions.

Remember where we are
As Christians, we are minorities in the world hoping to bring others to Christ.

Verses for Thought: John 17:13-18, 20 1, 1 John 2:15-17, John 15: 18-19

Hot Topic: How do you balance working in the Lord’s House with your regular life?

Time Management (Value) balancing your schedule, communicating, and using your resources.  Imagine your involvement…make it mandatory to be involved.  Throw yourself into the situation and minimize the time for foolishness and time for working with the Lord will become available.  We have to have a plan and make the most of the time that we are given.  John 4:3: recommend reading “A Purpose Driven Life” the content on how to plan your life is good (but the doctrine is off). Work on staying focused!

Tonight’s the night!  Friday Night Lights will be held at the home of Bro. & Sis. Eugene Johnson.  Activities start at 7:30 pm and don’t forget to bring a dish and a hot topic for discussion!

Note:  A “hot topic” item can be a question about the Bible or just a question about how to handle various temptations and/or situations that arise in our daily Christian walk.

Friday Night Lights – July 29, 2011

Topic: The 5 Love Languages –

Words of AffirmationActions don’t always speak louder than words. If this is your love language, unsolicited compliments mean the world to you. Hearing the words, “I love you,” are important—hearing the reasons behind that love sends your spirits skyward. Insults can leave you shattered and are not easily forgotten.

Quality TimeIn the vernacular of Quality Time, nothing says, “I love you,” like full, undivided attention. Being there for this type of person is critical, but really being there—with the TV off, fork and knife down, and all chores and tasks on standby—makes your significant other feel truly special and loved. Distractions, postponed dates, or the failure to listen can be especially hurtful.

Receiving GiftsDon’t mistake this love language for materialism; the receiver of gifts thrives on the love, thoughtfulness, and effort behind the gift. If you speak this language, the perfect gift or gesture shows that you are known, you are cared for, and you are prized above whatever was sacrificed to bring the gift to you. A missed birthday, anniversary, or a hasty, thoughtless gift would be disastrous—so would the absence of everyday gestures.

Acts of ServiceCan vacuuming the floors really be an expression of love? Absolutely! Anything you do to ease the burden of responsibilities weighing on an “Acts of Service” person will speak volumes. The words he or she most want to hear: “Let me do that for you.” Laziness, broken commitments, and making more work for them tell speakers of this language their feelings don’t matter.

Physical TouchThis language isn’t all about the bedroom. A person whose primary language is Physical Touch is, not surprisingly, very touchy. Hugs, pats on the back, holding hands, and thoughtful touches on the arm, shoulder, or face—they can all be ways to show excitement, concern, care, and love. Physical presence and accessibility are crucial, while neglect or abuse can be unforgivable and destructive.

It’s that time again! Friday Night Lights will be held THIS FRIDAY at 7:30 pm at the home of Brother & Sister Roy Johnson. Please come with your Bible, an open mind, and an empty stomach! Be ready for an evening of Christian fellowship!

Hope to see you there!
